Hello and welcome back. This episode I call a very deep dive into the 10 Disciplines. So we're going deep, and when it comes to understanding the 10 Disciplines, we can go very deep or we can be very surface and both work.
These 10 Disciplines meet you wherever you are. And when you think about every human being learning and implementing these 10 Disciplines in their life, everyone is somewhere on that spectrum of understanding. And some just need the surface level because they're just learning and not quite ready to go deep, and some are ready to go deep.
And so what I'm going to do as I take you through this is I'm going to address both. I'm going to show you the superficial, elementary, simple, tangible side of the discipline. So again, meet you where you are.
If that's where you are, both are vital and important. There's no bad answer here. Or there's the other side where I'm going to take you to a very complex, deep, intangible, advanced, almost spiritual side to these disciplines.
But I repeat, both are vital, both work, both are necessary in terms of understanding. And again, we just meet you wherever you are. And then I love to say it's all about how deep down the rabbit hole you really want to go.
We're going to start with discipline one, 10-year thinking. And so on the surface side, it's about tricking your mind to getting out of the now, now, now thinking, the urgency, the driven way of life, and kind of slowing down. And so we do that.
Two examples of surface disciplines or exercises to get there is the three-question exercise, that's right in shine, where we simply have you think out 10 years from now, right down the date, right down your age, and then right down the number one most important goal. That's a very surface, tangible way of getting your brain to think in 10-year time frames. Then there's also the 10-year vision exercise.
Again, these are all very tangible and surface to trick your mind. Then we go to the other side, under the surface, on a deep level in realizing that it's not about 10-year thinking. Those tools were just tricks.
It's about long-term thinking. It's about 20-year, 30-year, 100-year, ultimately letting go of time and realizing there is no time. It's about knowing.
And so this word knowing is going to come up many times as I take you to the deep side of each discipline. And a knowing is just simply where your soul, your true self, your intuition, your being at that deep soul level just knows. And so again, it's about knowing exactly who you are and being that every day.
Time stops where you have no past, no future, only right here and now. Again, we're talking about 10-year thinking, long-term thinking, 20, 30, 100, getting to a point where there is no time. Again, getting to a place where all there is, is right now.
And your past dissolves and fades away, whatever you're hanging onto from the past. The future, you start to let go of any anxiety around the future and all of your current actions, decisions, activities, thoughts, and feelings that you're doing right now in this moment align with who you truly are. On to discipline number two, take time off.
So on an elementary level, it's scheduling yourself where time is blocked so that you have a period of time that reminds you not to work. So you can turn it off and recharge your batteries and refresh yourself and hit the reset button. On an advanced level, much deeper level, it's naturally knowing, there's that word again, knowing when to turn off your go, go, go, hurry-driven self before you burn out.
It's just a natural thing. You headed off at the past, burnout is never an issue, so that you can reset your energy and always stay fresh and vital and alive at all times. It's all instinctual.
On to discipline number three, know thyself. On a tangible level, this is something like as simple as taking a personality profile. It's like taking Myers-Briggs to understand whether or not you're an introvert or an extrovert.
Very powerful, tangible tools to help you know thyself. But on an intangible level, on a very deep intangible level, it's knowing what your soul really wants, knowing who you truly are. It's meeting your true self.
It's you coming to meet you. And then everything happening, all of your experiences coming from that place. Discipline number four, be still.
So, on a simple level, it's scheduling 30 minutes every day to be still and think or meditate or journal or pray, and the magic happens. Now, on a very complex level, it's quieting your mind, becoming conscious, aware, and present at all times, and connecting to something bigger than yourself, and receiving downloads and uploads, and fully using your intuition to lead all of your decisions and actions where you are led fully by your true self. Discipline number five, know your hundred percent.
On the surface level, it's knowing the exact number of hours per week and weeks per year that you want to work and avoid burnout. No more, no less. That perfect magic number.
Under the surface, on a deeper level, it's about fully being your true self, letting your freak flag fly, and making the impact you want to on the world where you instinctively know how much is too much of a good thing. We can work too much, and you know when it's time to balance all of that impact activity that you do with time, with family, and friends, and yourself. On to discipline number six, say no often.
On an elementary level, it's about thinking and deciding which activities you should and shouldn't do based on your tenure vision, based on your schedule, on your understanding of yourself, and knowing your capacity. On an advanced level, it's instinctively and intuitively discerning what is right for your energy, and knowing at your core what your boundaries are, and never letting anyone cross those boundaries. It's not sacrificing your true self, and giving up your power and your energy for anyone or anything ever.
Discipline number seven, don't do $25 an hour work. On a tangible level, it's doing the math on how many hours you work, and how much money you make, and then doing that math, and that gives you an hourly rate. It's then delegating all of the lower dollar per hour activity and work, and then elevating yourself to higher dollar an hour work, and therefore, you greatly increase your income.
On a much deeper level, it's knowing, here's that word again, your value and worth in the world. It's having an abundance mindset, and knowing that the more value you create in the world, the more you will receive. It's believing the universe rewards us when we serve and make an impact, and the more we serve, and the bigger the impact we make, the bigger the reward.
Discipline number eight, prepare every night. On a simple level, it's ending your day by laying out tomorrow in chronological order, and then doing and following that plan to the letter. On a more complex, deeper level, it's knowing exactly who you are, and what you want out of life, and preparing, and then doing, and being the next day only the things that fully align with who you truly are.
Discipline number nine, put everything in one place. On the surface, it's having a one place, be it a legal pad, a tablet, a journal, that you write everything down, that you think of and commit to throughout the day, so you don't forget or let people down. On a deeper level, it's about staying completely conscious, and aware, and present in all of your interactions, so that you are always creative, and intuitive, and alive.
And when you receive a download or an upload during those interactions, then discerning whether or not it is worthy of addressing later, and if so, capturing it. Discipline number 10, be humble. On a tangible level, it's seeing yourself as equal to every person on the planet, and not feeling inferior or superior to anyone.
On a much deeper level, it's being grateful, feeling in your bones grateful that you are alive, and getting to enjoy this experience on this planet that only lasts on average about 80 years, and realizing that you are connected to every living thing on the planet, and your actions have an effect on all of it. The butterfly effect, cause and effect, whatever you want to call it, but your actions, knowing that your actions have an effect on all of it. We are all connected.
So, there it is, a very deep dive into the 10 Disciplines. I hope I'm being clear when I convey this range of understanding from surface to very deep, and also the fact that both are vital. Neither one is good or bad, it's just where you are.
Both work. It's a matter of meeting you wherever you are. Again, the surface stuff tricks your mind into understanding, and the deep stuff is just reminding your soul and true self what it already knows.
I'm just reminding it because it forgot. I hope that helps. Thank you for listening in today.
We truly appreciate you taking the time to spend with us, and please tune in for the next episode. Until then, we wish you all the best in freeing your true self, stay focused, and much love.
