EP 20_ GINO_S RIFF - MAXIMIZING YOUR OUTER WORLD SUCCESS_AUDIO
===
[00:00:00] Gino Wickman: Welcome to the Shed and Shine Podcast. I am Gino Wickman. This is where Rob Dube and I help driven entrepreneurs shed their shit, free their True Selves, unlock true entrepreneurial freedom and shine. We truly appreciate you taking the time to spend with us, and we hope to make a huge impact. Let's talk about maximizing your outer world.
And so we've spent a lot of time in this podcast and on this podcast talking about your inner world. I want to spend this entire riff focusing on your outer world. With that said, I need to start with a context that will touch on your inner world. But again, the focus is your outer world. The context is the True Self model.
And so if you haven't seen it, I urge you to go to the website, the10disciplines.com and take a look at it. If you have seen it, you can go to page 91 in the book Shine and you'll see it there. But in its simplest form, it's an infinity model, which is the visual as you picture the number eight tilted on its side.
And what it's illustrating is this beautiful flow and harmony and balance of two things flowing together. On the left hand side, impact, on the right hand side is peace. The left hand side, impact, is representing your outer world and the impact you're having on the world. The right hand side, the peace side, is illustrating your inner world and your inner world experiencing peace while you're making that impact.
With all of that said, the right side, peace and inner world, in all that we've been talking about in the way of shedding layers, what we're talking about in your inner world is shedding those layers, those blocks, those things holding you back from truly shining and being yourself. Well, on the left side, the impact side, the outer world side, there's some shedding that needs to be done there as well.
A very different kind of shedding, a much more tangible kind of shedding. And so these are things like delegations, tasks that you can just completely stop doing. Also a great way to think about this is to bring that marble sculpture analogy back into this conversation. And so if you picture you in your outer world, providing maximum impact on the world, you have a gift.
And that gift, if you picture that as this beautiful, masterful, magnificent structure or statue that is you, trapped in a block of marble that is not fully realized yet. It's a matter of just chipping away all the marble that isn't truly you, your True Self, your gifts to the world. It's a matter of removing all of that and enabling you to shine and make a bigger impact on the world.
With all of that said, focusing on maximizing your outer world is just as important as you maximizing your inner world if you want to make a bigger impact. You making a greater impact happens when you are fully you. Living in your sweet spot. Bringing your superpower to the world. Doing what you love and you are great at. Being in flow. Assuming that's true and you want that, as your True Self in your sweet spot, you'll make a bigger impact, you'll make more money, you'll be happier, you'll be in the flow, and your company will grow. And again, if you want that, then simply put, you must shed everything that isn't your superpower.
These things you'll shed, they're tangible things. Where again, when we shed on the right side of the model, your inner world stuff, it's very intangible. These things are very tangible. And so what I'd like you to do right now, I just want you to stop and think, what are you doing that you shouldn't be doing?
What are the things that aren't your superpower that need to be shed? And so I want you to literally make a list right now. Hit pause and make a list right now. If you're driving, hit pause and just think of the list, but just give yourself a few minutes to think of that list. Now, assuming you've done that, I want to pull two disciplines together for you that will help this thinking.
Because when you think of the list of the things, the marble that you need to chip away, the things that you need to delegate, the tasks you need to stop doing, Discipline 5: knowing your 100%, this is where you now have a very precious amount of time to work within. And then bringing Discipline 7 in.
Not doing $25-an-hour work, you should not be doing any$ 25-an-hour work. And so with that, you have this precious amount of time and any of the things that you listed that are$ 25-an-hour work, you should stop doing those two things. This will help create boundaries. To get your gears turning, I'm going to use me as an example in the hopes that I will prompt some more thoughts for you and things to add to your list.
And so as I look at my 25 year journey of shedding one thing, things like any admin responsibilities, correspondence, follow up, paperwork. I would literally treat it like the plague and I would make sure that someone did that $25-an-hour work for me to again, free me up to my superpower. Also, email.
I stopped reading my emails almost 20 years ago and delegated that to someone. It freed up my energy. I had much more clarity. I was much more creative. And I just believe no driven entrepreneur should be looking at their emails. It's an energy drain. Another example is scheduling and confirming appointments.
Somebody needs to take over your calendar. And so I let go of my calendar probably 15 years ago. Another example is all travel, personal travel and business travel. It is a time suck unless you absolutely love it, but it is $25-an-hour work at the end of the day. So then as I started to build my businesses, get clear, get closer to my sweet spot, then I started shedding some really important chunks of marble and so in building EOS worldwide, probably seven years in, I let go of, delegated, and chopped off the chunk of marble that was marketing and sales. And so that was scary to let go of, but I got to a point where it was more of a distraction to my superpower than helping the cause and growing the business.
And so I was able to let that go, delegate that. And then again, as the organization grew, for 10 years, I was the one who trained all of our EOS implementers, and I ran our quarterly meetings, which was another form of helping them, teaching them, guiding them, coaching them, and so I ran our boot camps to train them, I coached them, and I ran our quarterlies, and after 10 years of doing that, I finally let that go.
Delegated that, you know, chopped off that chunk of marble. Very scary, big stuff. But again, it kept getting me closer and closer and closer to my sweet spot. I kept making more and more and more of an impact, and my energy just kept going up and up and up and up. Then another big delegation came along where I let go of being the Visionary of the company and replaced myself as a Visionary. And then maybe the biggest of all, when I realized that the company, owning the company, being the majority owner of EOS Worldwide, was too much of a distraction to me being in my sweet spot, which at the end of the day is creating content. I decided to delegate a whole company and sold the business. So as I look back, the 25 year period from roughly age 25 to 50, I delegated something every single quarter. That's a hundred delegations over that time frame. I 20x'd my income. My income went up 20 times in that 25 years and I believe it's in direct proportion to me letting things go and continuing to elevate myself to my sweet spot.
And again, I kept making a bigger and bigger impact. The more I shed, the more I delegated, the more impact I made. And so with that, hopefully that stirred the pot for you, helped you come up with some ideas, because now we're going to turn the focus back to you. And I want you to go back to that list. And at this moment, all I want you to do is think about you being in your sweet spot, your superpower, 100 percent of the time.
And with that clarity, what is the one thing that you can delegate in this quarter, in this next 90 days, something that you can shed, that will get you closer to spending more time in that sweet spot, so you can make a bigger impact. And so I would urge you to take a look at your list, take a look at my list, admin, email, scheduling, marketing, sales, And just pick one thing.
So now let's bring those two disciplines back into this conversation. Discipline 5: Know Your 100%. Know your 100%, your work capacity. So if you're anything like me, 40 weeks a year, roughly 50 hours a week, that's my 100%. So now I've got to maximize that time with doing things that are in my sweet spot. What is your 100%?
And then Discipline 7: Don’t Do $25-an-Hour Work. What on that list is $25-an-hour work that you should not be doing so that you can make a bigger impact, make more money, grow your business and greatly increase your energy and creativity?
